The level of detailed applied to the overall UML model of the system is determined by:
1) The degree of technical complexity of the system being modelled;
2) The level of management complexity [i.e. large scale, contractual etc]; and
3) The level of CMMI maturity of the organisation
Developing a model for an Enterprise software system prior to its construction or renovation is as essential as having a blueprint for large high tech engineering project
Good models are essential for communication among project teams and to assure architectural soundness.
We build models of complex systems because we cannot comprehend any such system in its entirety.
